The third edition of the Montreal International Symposium on Therapeutic Yoga is on for November 9 and 10, 2013.
For a weekend the burgeoning international yoga therapy community is coming together in Montreal. This includes yoga teachers of all certifications, students, teacher trainers, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, researchers, doctors, people who work with the chronically ill… all coming together to share and learn at the interface of the tradition of yoga and the modern science of health.
“This is for the whole health care system in Canada, and of course for the person who is seeking help. The presenters are teaching the teachers, and the teachers are helping the people who are suffering,” says Heleen Couvrette, of H-OM Events. MISTY Co-Director Éric Couture adds that “the first reference is the doctors. We want to sensitize them to yoga by bringing together scientists and traditional yoga educators.”
Couvrette is the owner of H-OM Yoga, a studio in Hudson, Quebec. She became interested in the therapeutic aspects of yoga several years ago, and took the plunge to organize the first MISTY event. Now in its third year, MISTY is filling a vital role as more and more health professionals are looking for non-invasive, non-drug-based, effective tools to complement medicine.
“The seed is just beginning to to grow,” says Couvrette.
